Kathy, I am jealous that you have bloodroot! It used to grow with abandon in the woods in Missouri and in the timber at home. We used to paint our faces with it when we would play pretending to be wild Indians, although I am sure my Mother thought we were the real things! lol We used to go searching for those little clay nodules along the creek bank and crack them open and use the ochre colored mud in them, too. We stained a lot of clothes! We were such wild things back in the day. I saw bloodroot offered in an herb catalog once, but can't remember which or where. You are right in that the Native Americans used it as well, both in medicinal and in dyes. Thanks for sharing the pics!
