Tonya....do you have any pets, dogs or cats? If so, please get rid of the mouse poison. We learned a very hard, sad lesson, and I dont want to see anyone else go through it. We figured we had one or two mice in our house a few years back, and someone had told us about how effective the mouse poison was, so we bought some, and put it down in the basement. We kept it in areas where our dogs did not go, so we thought we were safe. We did not realize the the mouse/mice would live for a while, and wander to other areas of the house. The best we can figure is that while we were gone, a mouse made an appearance, and the dogs went after it. Bogey must of just caught it, or bit it a little bit, but Stan most likely ate the whole mouse. We did not notice the signs right away, as Stan was naturally a very laid back dog. One night I looked at Stan, and noticed he had the tip of his tongue sticking out, and that it was quite pale. I did not think much of it, thought perhaps he had it between his front teeth, and kind of cut the circulation a bit. It was when Bogey started acting a bit funny that we knew something was wrong. And Stan seemed to be getting weak, so we took him to the vet. Sure enough, Stan had ingested mouse poison. They had us bring Bogey in also, and he too had ingested some mouse poison, although not as much as Stan. The vet tried everything to help Stan, he stayed with them three days. We went to pick him up, and asked the vet if he felt we should put him down. The vet said that at that point, no...his blood counts were looking better, so he felt he might still have a chance. He ended up passing away two days later. Still miss that little chunky monkey...he had loads of personality and character. Bogey had taken in much less then Stan, we had to put him on a special diet for six to eight months, and he was on medication for quite a while. Thank God though, he returned to normal. Our vet and his wife were darn near in tears when we brought Stan in to take care of final arrangements. The vet STRONGLY thinks that all mouse and rat poisons like that should be banned, totally. Now, we use these reusable black and red plastic traps, and I reccomend them highly. I never cared for the wood traps, they were so sensitive that when I would go to set them down, they would snap...scary me half to death. We use peanut butter for bait, and that seems to work really well. I keep a couple traps set un in differnt places in the house, as we have an older house, and there is a grain elevator down the road. We have not seen any sign of mice for many months now, so I think the traps are really working well. Plus, they are humane, and kill the mouse right away. I ahve used the sticky type before, and dont care for them.....it does not kill the mouse, so can be hard on them. Okay...I am done yapping...I wish you the best of luck with this!
