Hello, me again! I have been out on the porch, dibbling out basil plants. I am not sure you can call it dibbling. I think separating might be a better description! It was a 6 cell pack. Each cell had many basil plants all tightly bunched together and all was extremely root bound. I got enough root for each plant... how was I supposed to know what belonged to what in that root bound mess and transplanted each to separate cell in a flat of cell packs. I found it very odd that it turned out to be exactly 48 plants.. just enough to fill the flat. What are the chances of that happening? The number of plants in each plant clump was not the same. I don't think basil plants would do well all bunched together like that. Usually at this garden center, they have a same size pack with maybe 60-100 plants but they are much smaller than these were and dibble out beautifully. What am I going to do with 48 basil plants? I will let you know when I figure out what I am going to do with all the tomato plants.... they go well together! image Given all those plants, I think I shall tuck away my genovese basil seeds for next year and just get some large leaf and miniature leaf basil plant seeds going.... will start in 3x4 inch trays and then plan to dibble out when they get big enough. That might be a project for tomorrow night. Leave the tray of basil plants on the porch for tomorrow and then if they look like they have taken and are happy... out in the mini greenhouse they go! To make more room for more flats. More mature tomato plants will go out in mini greenhouse over the weekend when I am home to keep an eye on them and how they are adjusting. New tomato seedlings will get moved to the porch then also. I figure anything that was going to germinate will have by then. And I can lower the heat in the house. Laughing...they were just sitting there and not germinating until I figured out might be a bit cool for them... so turned up the thermostat. Just to 70.... Worked like a charm! image.....seems a bit warm for me... but I can survive a few days of it. Nice and cool in the office room by open window! I think I am supposed to be starting peas in here somewhere... will go check that nifty planting spreadsheet. Have fun!
;)

P.S. I only paid $2 for that cell pack of basil with the 48 plants in it... of course there is the cost of the tray and cell pack insert, and grow mix to consider.... but I never do... that is just hobby supplies! An overhead expense!
