From Dan:

Composts bins can go anywhere; over planned expansion or in place of convenience in relation to the garden. My four bins are along the east property line under a Lilac hedge. Three are strictly compost and the fourth a double-sized for leaf collection. The leaves get layered as other matter available.

A newly started bin gets the spring prunings built up to 1.5 to 2' for aeration. I also placed my tumbler near which is mounted on posts so my wheel barrow fits under. The text plan is in the Project category; no pics yet 'til a camera borrowed. All compost is tumbled with screened-out returned to a bin.

Compost use is regulated by availability. If a good matter year then it is used in spring preparation, summer side-dressing, season compost teas and a fall dressing for the over-wintered. There is never enough so I supplement with horse manure. This year I will be scouting out stables so able to incorporate in the layering of compost bins.
