Family gathering on Saturday. Youngest niece notices a 4" terra cotta pot turned upside down hanging by a rope and asked ....whas that? lawn ornament or
bell/wind chime? I wasn't quite sure and my sister reached out and looked in to see if it had a clapper. Nope! ......
...and snatched up the small child and ran.... given the
, I backed off also. So no one got stung. It was
filled with wasp nest. I went out yesterday morning, it was 55 degrees F....perfect! Laid some newspapers down below and sprayed the nest. They were yellow
jackets. Since Mom has sentimental attachment to the pot on rope as it was made by another grandchild, although the painting has long been washed away by
rain, I felt I had to scrape the nest out .....I used a pencil....figuring I could throw it away.... actually I washed it and stuck it back in the pen/pencil
pot.... and..... I noticed as they were all falling out onto the newspaper......one was different.... had green stripes.....I think that one was the queen
bee.
My Mom is allergic and has epi pen and 10 minutes to inject herself if stung. So a wasps nest is not a good thing in her back yard.
