Good morning,
I went to bed early and woke up so early today. I can watch the sun come up. Dennis, is there some way you can find some more volunteers to help with your lunches? I agree about junk mail. It is overwhelming. Then again, I would like the postal system to stay in business. George, good news about your orthopedic appointment. Pam, glad to hear you are making progress on your Christmas cards. I have mine addressed and the cards all folded. I need to start writing them out. I got sidetracked yesterday shopping for seeds. I like to stick some in my Christmas cards. Who am I kidding? I love shopping for seeds.
I did have one very ridiculous conversation with a woman. I buy seeds to donate to the NH food bank. I skim seeds off the top, only fair. The NH food bank likes to grow vegetables that weigh a lot, as their metric to get funding is pounds of food. They are quite bullish on squash. Our best squash plant last year was a golden zucchini. Black Beauty zucchini, $1.96 for one offer of 59 seeds, $6 something for 1/4 lb. Early Straightneck summer squash, $1.96 for one offer of 153 seeds, $6 something for 1/4 lb. Golden Zucchini, $1.96 for one offer of 59 seeds, $17 something for 1/4 lb. Is it me? Shouldn't that be $6 something for 1/4 lb? So in the interest of getting more seeds for the foodbank, I call the company to explain that I think they have a typo/pricing issue. I was kind of expecting them to say that oh, yes, thanks for pointing that out, or ... we like to keep our prices for single offers consistent but we have a shortage of golden zucchini seeds so the bulk rate is much higher... or some other logical explanation. What I got was a woman who informed me that she had been setting the prices on-line for seeds for 18 years, so of course she knew what she was doing, and there could be no mistake, the price was correct! It was quite obvious that I had offended her no end. I thanked her for her time. Oh, bother!
I hope everyone has an excellent day today!
